Happy Easter!

Operating within the color-blocking theme of this last week (see post below), we attempted crisp sharp lines and chunky patches of color with our eggs. And then the glitter came out and we drizzled shaved crayon on the hot egg shells and it made for a much more interesting, fun and spontaneous experience!
Have a wonderful weekend!

What's your BHAG for 2012?

In a recent interview I was asked about my BHAG for 2012. The writer went on to explain,
"Personal BHAGs are a big part of what we help our community of creative entrepreneurs work on. “BHAG” stands for Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal. The BHAG (pronounced “bee-hag”) is a term coined by Jerry Porras and James Collins in their book Built to Last, which examines the qualities of successful visionary companies."
And now my BHAG for 2012 is out there for all the world to see on the DIY Business Association's website, where I am proudly featured as the DIY Business of the Week!

For the love of books!

I am married to a novelist and have worked as a professional writer for over 15 years, so you can say I have a healthy respect for story. But I also love the physical component of books (which may explain why I've yet to fully embrace an e-book reader). Today my daughter and I made books with fabric-bound covers. They were inspired by one a friend made on Harriet Tubman for her 3rd grade class. There is no better way to spend the day.

A Milestone of Sorts

It's hard to believe that only six short months ago I was behind the scenes at the printer watching my book come to life. I signed off on every page in a cold sweat. So overwhelming were the thousands of decisions that went into the end product-- paper weight, paper count, cover design, color tone to name a few-- I sometimes thought about abandoning the hard copy and issuing a shorter e-book. But Recipe for Press is a DIY guide to communicating with media, a manual that should be highlighted, dog-eared and referenced often. It has the kind of lush photography and gorgeous illustrations that translate best in print. I'm glad I went this route and the insanity of it all is that I'll probably do it again! Thanks for supporting and sharing!
