In the event an editor has never pulled you aside and said, "Pssst! You may want to kick it up in the photography department. We can't use your over-styled product shots even though we love your work," then allow me! A great product shot is well-lit, appears to be floating in white (below) so that the only thing you see are the details, silhouette and color of the product. And investing in good product photography will save you from having to send samples to editors. Instead, they'll simply ask for a high-res image of your picture!
