Ask Amy! Should I attach an image when I pitch an editor?

No!  Editors do not open attachments.  A low-resolution image (72 dpi) should be embedded directly into the email. You have about three seconds to grab that editor’s attention and sell your idea and the photo is your seductress.  A crisp, well-lit shot against a plain white backdrop is always preferable. And be sure to mention at the end of the pitch that high-resolution images are available.
